I find it very strange, as I'm sure many others who have delved into it do also, that our everyday world functions according to one set of laws (Newtonian) and yet those very same "things" at the smallest level that we can see them(so far) function with a completely different set of rules(quantum physics). If I'm looking at an object, for example lets say a rock, it appears to the naked eye to be very solid and separate as well as static...yet at a sub-atomic level we know that the particles that make up that "thing" have a vast amount of space in between them. At an even smaller level, those electrons that comprise the very elemental foundation of what we call a rock, aren't even close to static. They move, interact, and change position in very strange ways. Did you know that an electron can be a particle or a wave and only "decides" which one it will be when we look at it? Isn't that strange? It's also my understanding that an electron can be in an infinite number of positions and once again "decides" which one it is in only when it is looked upon by our instruments?
So perhaps everything is not as it seems. Perhaps our eyes mislead us into thinking we live in a very boring and predictable world, yet our science is finding that this is hardly the case.
Yet how is it possible that scientists can compartmentalize this. That they can accept one set of rules for the large and another for the small? Is nature not consistent?
Strange questions for strange times.
